What grants are available for a heat pump in 2026?
Written by Cofany, installer based in the Vienne (86), France ·
Short answer
In 2026, an air-to-water or ground-source heat pump may qualify for MaPrimeRénov' "par geste", CEE premiums (boosted by Coup de pouce Chauffage for approved models replacing a coal, oil or gas boiler) and reduced VAT, subject to conditions. Air-to-air heat pumps are not covered by MaPrimeRénov'. Amounts depend on your income, the property and the work: Cofany checks your eligibility at quote stage.
Which heat pumps qualify for MaPrimeRénov' in 2026?
Air-to-water and ground-source (or solar-thermal) heat pumps qualify; air-to-air heat pumps do not. Since 1 September 2026, MaPrimeRénov' "par geste" in mainland France mainly funds four types of work: air-to-water heat pumps, ground-source or solar-thermal heat pumps, connection to a renewable heating network, and removal of an oil tank.
In practice, reversible air conditioning (air-to-air heat pumps) and solar PV panels are outside MaPrimeRénov'. If your project combines several systems, each one has to be assessed separately.
MaPrimeRénov' still has conditions: the home must be a main residence built more than 15 years ago, household income is taken into account, and the work must be done by an RGE-qualified company. The amount varies by income band and equipment type; it is set by Anah and changes regularly. That is why we never announce an amount in advance.
What changed for Coup de pouce Chauffage in September 2026?
Since 1 September 2026, the Coup de pouce Chauffage bonus is reserved for heat pump models with a state approval ("agrément"). This bonus multiplies the CEE (energy savings certificate) premium by five when a heat pump replaces a coal, oil or gas boiler.
A non-approved model is not excluded from all support: it can still receive the standard CEE premium, without the bonus. The model you choose therefore directly affects funding. During the survey we check whether the proposed unit is an approved model and state it in the quote.
CEE premiums are paid by energy suppliers or partner companies. The application must be started before you sign the quote; a premium requested afterwards is usually refused.
Can I keep gas heating with a whole-house renovation?
No, for a detached house: since 1 September 2026, a whole-house renovation ("rénovation d'ampleur") of a house can no longer get MaPrimeRénov' if gas heating remains after the work.
This scheme funds a package of work (insulation, ventilation, heating) with a large energy gain and mandatory support from a Mon Accompagnateur Rénov' adviser. If you are considering it, replacing gas heating must be part of the plan. An air-to-water or ground-source heat pump is one possible solution.
Is an application filed before September 2026 affected?
No. Applications filed before 1 September 2026 keep the old rules. If you already have a file in progress, keep the filing date and acknowledgement: they determine which conditions apply.
What other support can be combined?
Several schemes can be combined, subject to conditions. The zero-interest eco-loan (éco-PTZ) lets you fund the work without interest through a partner bank. Reduced VAT may apply to energy-efficiency work in homes completed more than two years ago. Some local authorities also offer local grants; these are checked at quote stage.
Grants are capped according to your household income; we calculate your actual out-of-pocket cost in the quote. Be wary of "€1" or "zero cost" offers made without a survey.
How does Cofany check your eligibility?
We do it at quote stage, based on your actual situation. During the visit in the Vienne (86), we note the property's features (year built, current heating, emitters, insulation) and the right type of heat pump. We then tell you which support may apply, which steps to take and in what order, and whether the proposed model is approved for Coup de pouce Chauffage.
Amounts and conditions change regularly; we check eligibility when quoting rather than promising a figure. For an official simulation, you can also use the France Rénov' tools.
Schemes and eligibility change regularly; we confirm your eligibility when preparing the quote.
