FAQ

Heat pumps

Will a heat pump work with my radiators?

Often yes, provided your radiators heat well with cooler water than a boiler delivers. During the visit we check radiator sizes, insulation and the water temperature needed. If some radiators are too small, we tell you which ones to replace or whether a high-temperature heat pump is a better fit.

Can a heat pump replace my oil boiler?

Yes, it is one of the most common replacements. An air-to-water heat pump connects to your existing heating circuit and can also produce hot water. We check the pipework, available electrical capacity and the outdoor unit location. Removal of the tank and boiler is set out in the quote.

How long does it take to install an air-to-water heat pump?

Usually a few days on site for a detached house, depending on the setup. Timing depends on boiler removal, plumbing and electrical work and access to the outdoor location. The quote states the expected duration and the scheduled period; commissioning and settings are done at the end.

Do I need permission to install a heat pump?

Sometimes. Depending on the commune and how visible the outdoor unit is from the street, a prior works declaration may be required at the town hall, especially in protected areas or shared buildings. The installation must also respect neighbourhood noise rules. We check this during the visit and choose the location accordingly.

Are heat pumps noisy?

No, when correctly chosen and placed. The outdoor unit makes a fan noise that is more noticeable in deep winter. We keep it away from windows and boundaries, use anti-vibration mounts and set the unit to avoid needless cycling. The sound level of the proposed model is shown in the quote.

What maintenance does a heat pump need?

Regular professional servicing is recommended, and mandatory above certain output or refrigerant quantities. It checks tightness, settings, filters and performance. Between visits, keep the outdoor unit clear. Cofany offers maintenance contracts; the quote states what is included.

What grants are available for a heat pump?

Several may apply subject to conditions: MaPrimeRénov' for air-to-water and ground-source heat pumps, CEE premiums, eco-PTZ and reduced VAT. Amounts depend on income, the property and the model, and change often. We check eligibility at quote stage; our 2026 grants guide explains the current rules.

FAQ

Air conditioning

Does reversible air conditioning heat well in winter?

Yes. Reversible AC is an air-to-air heat pump: it heats efficiently for most of the winter when correctly sized for the room and insulation. Output drops in very cold weather, which we factor in during the survey. It does not produce domestic hot water.

What is the difference between reversible AC and an air-to-water heat pump?

Reversible AC heats and cools the air room by room, without producing hot water. An air-to-water heat pump feeds radiators or underfloor heating and can produce hot water, but does not always cool. Grants differ too: only air-to-water can get MaPrimeRénov'. Our guide compares both in detail.

How many indoor units does a house need?

It depends on how many rooms you want to treat, their size and the layout. In practice it is often one unit per living room or bedroom, connected to one or more outdoor units (multi-split), or a ducted system that distributes air through vents. The survey sets the exact number.

Single-split or multi-split: which should I choose?

Single-split suits one room: one indoor unit linked to one outdoor unit. Multi-split connects several indoor units to a single outdoor unit, handy for several rooms with only one unit outside. The choice depends on the number of rooms, pipe distances and available space.

Does air conditioning need servicing every year?

Yes, it is recommended. You clean the indoor unit filters regularly; once a year a professional checks circuit tightness, coils, condensate drainage and performance. A leak check is mandatory above a certain refrigerant quantity. Cofany offers annual servicing.

Do I need permission for the outdoor unit?

Sometimes. A prior declaration may be required depending on the commune and how visible the unit is, and the building's co-owners often need to agree in flats. The unit must also respect neighbourhood noise rules. We explain the steps during the visit.

Is air conditioning noisy?

Not much, with a recent, well-installed unit. The indoor unit is quiet in normal use; most noise comes from the outdoor unit. We place it away from bedrooms and neighbours and use anti-vibration mounts. The sound level of the proposed models is shown in the quote.

FAQ

Solar panels

Is it still worth installing solar panels in 2026?

Yes, if the system is sized to your consumption. Since 2026 the self-consumption premium is gone and surplus buy-back is very low, so the benefit mainly comes from electricity you use yourself during the day. A well-oriented roof and daytime usage improve the return. The quote states the estimated production.

How many panels does a house in the Vienne need?

It depends on your daytime consumption, roof area, orientation and shading, not on a standard package. A household that uses little power during the day is better off with a small, well-used system. We review your bills and roof during the visit to propose a suitable size.

Can I sell my solar electricity?

Yes, unused surplus can be sold through an EDF OA purchase contract. Since the decree of 1 June 2026, the buy-back price is very low for systems up to 100 kWp: selling adds to your savings but should not be the main reason for the project.

Is a battery worthwhile?

Not always. A battery stores daytime production for the evening; it mainly makes sense if you use a lot of power in the evening and little during the day. Its cost and lifespan must be weighed against expected savings. We assess it case by case and the quote shows the real benefit.

What maintenance do solar panels need?

Very little. A visual check and occasional cleaning are enough in most cases, and the inverter is checked during visits. Production monitoring quickly reveals any abnormal drop. Cofany offers maintenance and cleaning.

Do €1 or free solar panels exist?

No. No public scheme funds 100% of a solar installation. Such offers often hide expensive credit or unfavourable terms. Be wary of cold calling and always check the quote, the equipment and the company before signing.

FAQ

Electrical work

Do I need a new consumer unit to install a heat pump?

Not necessarily. The key checks are whether your supply subscription is sufficient, whether there is room for a dedicated circuit and whether protection is suitable. If the unit is old or full, an upgrade may be needed depending on the installation's condition. We check this during the visit; our guide explains what is checked.

What is the NF C 15-100 standard?

It is the French standard for low-voltage electrical installations in homes: residual-current protection, number of sockets and circuits, earthing, bathrooms. It applies to new installations and renovated parts. An older installation does not need a full rewire, but must remain safe.

Do you handle electrical repairs?

Yes, Cofany handles fault finding, repeated tripping and restoring power, depending on availability in the Vienne. Contact us via WhatsApp or the form describing the problem. In case of immediate danger (burning smell, exposed wires), switch off at the main breaker.

Must my installation be brought up to standard?

Not always, but it is strongly recommended for safety. An electrical diagnosis is required when selling or renting a home whose installation is over 15 years old. When renovating, the parts redone must meet NF C 15-100.

What are signs of an outdated electrical installation?

Frequent tripping, no RCD, unearthed sockets, an old fuse box, fabric-covered wires or sockets that get hot are warning signs. If you notice one, get a diagnosis. We inspect the installation and list priority work in the quote.

Do you connect heat pumps, air conditioning and solar panels?

Yes. Cofany handles the electrical connection of its own installations: dedicated circuit and protection for heat pumps or AC, inverter connection and protection for solar PV. A single contact avoids coordination problems between trades.
